Summary : We highly recommend the Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter for both newbie and professional quadcopter pilots. It is easy to set up, fun to fly and worth the price.

Pros: DJI Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter is easy to unpack and setup. It is easy to learn to fly, and its GPS works well. The camera is decent, and its Smartphone and iPhone integration feature is awesome. It uses Wi-Fi repeater to stream live FPV (first person view) video to your smartphone while at the same time displaying flight metrics such as speed, altitude and distance. What is more, should you fly outside the controller’s range (or inadvertently lose connection), Phantom 2 Vision will use GPS to navigate to its launch point and land securely on its own.

Cons: To newbies, instructions supplied with the unit are inadequate and to some extent incomplete. I could not find any information on the manual explaining what S1 and S2 switches on the remote were for. I had to download full user manual online, and watch a couple of videos to learn what they are meant for. They are integral to the proper functioning of the phantom, since they help in setting up the phantom and flying it safely. In addition, user set up (Wi-Fi connectivity and compass calibration) is complex and quite unreliable.

DJI Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter Review

The biggest upgrade with the Vision over the stand DJI Phantom 2 is it’s built in Wi-Fi HD video camera that enables users to view live output through the free DJI Vision app in their android or iOS devices; even when the Vision is in flight. Additionally, the app allows them to monitor Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter parameters such as remaining battery life, location and altitude.

The DJI Phantom 2 Vision is a four-rotor, radio controlled, mini helicopter that comes packed with an integrated stabilized, 14-megapixel camera. It shoots complete HD 1080p videos at up to 60 frames per second. DJI (the manufacturer) tells that it speeds up to 30mph and can fly up to a range of 300 meters

Phantom 2 Vision is a complete aerial system, and it takes just a few minutes to set up and fly. Once it has soared, you will be able to 1080p video, and capture 14mp still photos using live viewing. You can also control the device via your android or iOS device.

With its intelligent Lipo battery, Phantom 2 Vision flies up to 25 minutes taking amazing professional quality aerial footage. Phantom 2 Vision also include all the features you loved from the earlier phantom such as intelligent orientation control, advanced GPS guide, and ready to fly design. Phantom 2 Vision quadcopter is a high flying camera which delivers beautiful aerial photos and videos.

DJI Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter – Features

Inside the box, the first thing you will note is a more than 50 page instructional manual. This is not surprising, since you will be holding a sophisticated gadget in your hands. Other features include:

  • Integrated 1080p HD video recording on a micro SD card and live first person viewing.
  • A Wi-Fi extender that allows live video streaming from up to 980 feet away
  • A tilt motor that compensate for the phantom’s single-axis motion by tilting the camera for smoother video, and its controllable through the vision app.
  • Fly for a minimum of 25 minutes on the included 5200 mAh lithium polymer that is removable and contains circuitry and a charge meter.
  • The Phantom 2 Vision includes all the features you like from the original Phantom, but with a camera instead of a GoPro mount.

Setting up Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter

Getting ready for your first flight requires some initial setup. First, note there are three different batteries to consider; the batteries of the controller, the flight battery, and the battery of the Wi-Fi range extender.

Once you have all these fully charged and properly installed, you will have to walk through a few steps to install the propellers, set up the mobile app, range the extender, bind the camera, connect the Wi-Fi, and calibrate the compass. Once you have got all these done, you are set to go for your first flight.

Flying Time

Basic flying with the DJI Phantom 2 Vision is amazingly easy. Simply, find a flat open grassy area and get started. Without radio controlled helicopter experience to speak of, I had the Phantom 2 Vision zooming all around a local park my first time out. The only hard part for those new to flying may be recalling what the different control stick motions do. For instance, it is easy to mix up the forward control with the up control. However, if you are capable of playing a video game on the Xbox, you’ll probably have little trouble getting started with the phantom 2 vision quadcopter.

Final Thoughts

At the end of it all, the phantom 2 Vision quadcopter comes out as a truly amazing device. It is easy for beginners to set up and use, and sufficiently powerful to serve professional photographers. The vision opens a whole new world of creative possibilities in photography. What’s more, flying it around the neighborhood on a sunny afternoon is just plain fun.
